Frequently asked questions
Helpful answers before we get started.
A straightforward guide to aquarium maintenance, aquascaping, installations and working with Memory Lane Aquatic Design.
Services and suitability
What types of aquarium do you work with?
Memory Lane Aquatic Design specialises in freshwater aquariums, including planted low-tech and high-tech systems, established home displays, larger workplace aquariums and more involved specialist setups.
Do you work with marine or reef aquariums?
No. The service is focused on freshwater aquariums so that the advice, equipment choices and ongoing care remain within that area of experience.
Can you help with an aquarium installed by someone else?
Yes. Existing aquariums can be assessed before maintenance begins so their condition, equipment, livestock and practical needs are properly understood.
Can you help with CO₂ and canister filtration?
Yes. Experience includes canister filters, freshwater CO₂ systems, planted-aquarium equipment and the balance between lighting, nutrients and healthy growth.
Maintenance
How often can maintenance visits be arranged?
One-off, fortnightly and monthly visits may be suitable. The right frequency depends on the aquarium, its planting, equipment, livestock and the level of ongoing care it needs.
What happens during a maintenance visit?
A visit can include plant care, water changes, equipment checks, water testing, algae control and a practical update on the aquarium's condition. The exact work is shaped around the aquarium.
Do I need to prepare anything before a visit?
Usually only clear access to the aquarium and any nearby equipment is needed. Any specific requirements can be agreed when the visit is arranged.
Design and installation
How does a new aquarium project work?
The process follows six clear stages: consultation, design, review, procurement, installation and ongoing maintenance where required.
Can you design around my room or workplace?
Yes. The aquarium's scale, visual style, practical access and long-term care are considered alongside the space around it.
Will I be involved in the design?
Yes. The consultation establishes your preferences, and the design is reviewed with you before equipment, hardscape or plants are procured.
Can you advise on plants and livestock?
Yes. Plant selection, composition and livestock suitability are considered together so the finished aquarium is attractive, appropriate and practical to care for.
